On Valentine's Day, 14th February 2020, Inminds human rights group held a vigil outside the world's largest diamond company, De Beers Jewellers, at the heart of London's retail diamond hub, in Bond Street, to expose De Beers dirty secrets in the exploitation of black Africans; and to highlight the link between De Beers diamond jewellery and Israeli war crimes in Palestine. Shoppers were urged to boycott Israeli blood diamonds, like those on sale in De Beers.
DE BEERS - BACKGROUND
De Beers diamond empire was founded by a genocidal white supremacist called Cecil Rhodes, and was built on the blood of black African indentured slave labour. De Beers blood diamonds founded and bankrolled apartheid in South Africa and today De Beers helps sustain apartheid in Palestine with its support of the Israeli diamond industry which today, with De Beers' help, is Israel's #1 industry by far, account for nearly a quarter of Israel’s total manufacturing export.
Israeli economist Shir Hever testified at the Russell Tribunal in November 2010 that “Overall the Israeli diamond industry contributes about $1 billion annually to the Israeli military and security industries … every time somebody buys a diamond that was exported from Israel some of that money ends up in the Israeli military”.
In Israel's July 2014 attack on Gaza, 258 schools & kindergardens were targeted, 521 children were slaughtered whilst they took shelter in UN schools. UNICEF reported that another 3,374 were injured - nearly a third of whom suffer permanent disability - and over 1,500 children were left orphaned. At the time the Israeli Diamond Bourse boasted of sending truck loads of military equipment to help this slaughter of children.
De Beers sells around 90% of its rough diamonds to a few select partners known as Sightholders. Nearly 20% of those Sightholders are part of the Israeli Diamond Bourse.
This figure does not include Israeli diamond companies outside Israel like Diacore (formally called Steinmetz Diamond Group), a close De Beers partner, who had 'adopted' Israel's notorious Givati Brigade of the Israeli army during Operation Cast Lead in 2009. The Givati Brigade stands accused of war crimes and possible crimes against humanity by the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Featured MP3 Podcast "[Deportation at the airport] We saw the injured [Turkish] men going through.. a lot had a leg cut out of their trousers or an arm cut out of their top. It had been cut out to treat their wounds.. they were covered in blood, blood that had been there for three days, and some of them had wounds that were still bleeding.. What upset me most was seeing the dozen men, one after another, hobbling across the terminal, with a bandaged foot. I couldn't ask them why so many of them had a bandaged foot, I couldn't ask them what had happened, because if they spoke or if any of us spoke to them the Israelis beat the injured person.. We later found out that they had these injuries on the tops of their feet from when the troops came down from the helicopter on the Mavi Marmara, and they came down firing - they had been shot from above. Some of the men that were killed were shot at close range - head and chest, but a dozen of the men who were shot, among 59 people who were shot, they were shot at the tops of their feet - the bullets were coming down.. They weren't given a wheelchair or a pair of crutches, and if any of the other passengers stood up and tried to offer [help].. that person was dragged away and smacked by these Israelis. The Israeli soldiers sat on the floor, laughed and sniggered and made every one of these Turkish men hobble and hop all the way across, some 200 metres, everyone of them, one by one, made to do that purely for the sick amusement of the Israeli soldiers."
