DATE: Fri 24th Mar 2017 3pm-5pm
LOCATION: UK Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross, 44 Moorfields, London EC2Y 9AL (near back entrance of Moorgate tube station)
FACEOOK EVENT: https://www.facebook.com/events/234332827040683/

22th March 2017, www.inminds.com

On Friday 24th March 2017, Inminds human rights group will protest outside the UK Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in London to mark the 4th anniversary of the abduction, torture and caging of five Palestinian teens (the Hares Boys) who were taken by Israeli soldiers from their homes in the village of Hares in the West Bank and today are still imprisoned on 15 year sentences on trumped up false charges of throwing stones. Inminds will demand the Red Cross restore the twice-monthly family visits for Palestinian political prisoners which were cut last July, and for the ICRC to fulfil its duty towards Palestinian prisoners in ensuring the Fourth Geneva Convention is respected by Israel.

Inminds chair Abbas Ali said "On this day four years ago, 5 children from the village of Hares were being violently tortured at the notorious HP powered Israel dungeon at Al Jalame. Caged in tiny 'hole in the ground' children's cells three floors below the surface, the soldiers beat false confessions out of the children. An Israeli military court with a 99.74% conviction rate for Palestinian children robbed the children of their lives by 'rubber stamping' 15 years sentences on them for a crime that didn't even happen. We are privileged and honoured to have worked with the families of the boys for nearly 4 years to campaign for their freedom. Our first, of dozens of protests, was in July 2013 and we will inshAllah continue protesting until their freedom is achieved."

Inminds chair Abbas Ali added "We are particularly disappointed in the ICRC. They have shamefully co-opted into acting as an arm of the occupation in withholding family visits from Palestinian political prisoners and abrogated their responsibilities towards the prisoners. Under their charge, Israeli soldiers have boarded ICRC coaches, abused mothers and confiscated visiting permits to see their sons from them. The ICRC has let these crimes happen and have stayed silent over them. One of the mothers of the Hares Boys, Neimeh Shamlawi has told us that before the Red Cross cut family visits she used to be able to visit her son twice a month, then due to the Red Cross cuts it was just once a month and then after the soldiers took her visiting permit on an ICRC coach she hasn't been able to see her son for the last 5 months. The ICRC has done nothing about this. This is unacceptable. We demand the ICRC take responsibility and wield the considerable power their unique position provides them to help the Shamlawis and the other thousands of Palestinian prisoners families who are suffering directly due to their negligence. The ICRC was created on the mandate of ensuring that the Geneva Conventions are upheld, it's about time they fulfilled their mandate and stopped turning a blind eye to Israel's systematic breach of the Geneva Conventions."

"[Deportation at the airport] We saw the injured [Turkish] men going through.. a lot had a leg cut out of their trousers or an arm cut out of their top. It had been cut out to treat their wounds.. they were covered in blood, blood that had been there for three days, and some of them had wounds that were still bleeding.. What upset me most was seeing the dozen men, one after another, hobbling across the terminal, with a bandaged foot. I couldn't ask them why so many of them had a bandaged foot, I couldn't ask them what had happened, because if they spoke or if any of us spoke to them the Israelis beat the injured person.. We later found out that they had these injuries on the tops of their feet from when the troops came down from the helicopter on the Mavi Marmara, and they came down firing - they had been shot from above. Some of the men that were killed were shot at close range - head and chest, but a dozen of the men who were shot, among 59 people who were shot, they were shot at the tops of their feet - the bullets were coming down.. They weren't given a wheelchair or a pair of crutches, and if any of the other passengers stood up and tried to offer [help].. that person was dragged away and smacked by these Israelis. The Israeli soldiers sat on the floor, laughed and sniggered and made every one of these Turkish men hobble and hop all the way across, some 200 metres, everyone of them, one by one, made to do that purely for the sick amusement of the Israeli soldiers."
