[Boycott - Economic - World] Knesset members urge boycott of Israeli companies building new Palestinian city
Nir Hasson, Haaretz 3 January 2011 Forty-eight MKs call on cabinet ministers to stop cooperation with some 20 Israeli companies who committed to divest from Israeli settlements during construction of Rawabi.
Forty-eight Knesset members have signed a petition calling to boycott Israeli companies which are involved in building the Palestinian city of Rawabi and who committed to divest from Israeli settlements during their work there.
Construction of the new Palestinian city of Rawabi
"Israeli companies have sold their Zionist souls and their national solidarity for a handful of dollars," the petition read, which called on cabinet ministers to refrain from cooperating with some 20 Israeli companies who committed to boycott Israeli products from the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights.
The petition was an initiative of the Eretz Yisrael lobby, headed by MKs Ze'ev Elkin and Aryeh Eldad, and was signed by right-wing MKs as well as half of the Kadima faction – including former finance minister Roni Bar-On and chairman of the State Control Committee Yoel Hasson.
The petition explained that "Israeli companies who provide products and services for the construction of the Arab city Rawabi, agreed to sign a contract in which they will cooperate with a Palestinian boycott of products and services in what the Palestinians called 'occupied East Jerusalem', 'occupied West Bank', 'occupied Gaza Strip', 'occupied Golan Heights'."
"We call on you, cabinet ministers, regardless of factions, to refrain from any business dealings with those Israeli companies who signed or will sign on this shameful contract, which is cooperation with Palestinian economic terrorism," the letter urged.
