New staff for Israel Lobby

BICOM, the UK-based organisation that promotes Israel has made a number of new appointments to its UK staff as well as employing two people to establish an Israeli office.

The two Israel appointments are Jona Cummings as director of Israeli operations and Richard Pater as public affairs manager.

Prior to taking his new BICOM role, Cummings was a former research fellow at the Portland Trust while Pater previously worked in the foreign press department in the Israeli government press office.

In the UK, BICOM has increased its media team with the appointment of Ben Overlander as head of media and Jeremy Lucas as its new press officer.

Overlander previously worked for Prince Charles in the Clarence House press officer while Lucas was a former producer for BBC and Sky News.

as head of the pro-Israel lobby group BICOM

"BICOM is delighted to announce these recent appointments. We want to be known for employing the best people and we think we have," said BICOM chief executive Lorna Fitzsimons. "This is part of a continuing programme of development and investment to ensure that we continue to improve the perception of Israel in the UK in the best way that we can."

Meanwhile, the BICOM supported Stop the Boycott campaign which works to oppose any boycott of the Jewish state has employed a senior Labour Party campaigner as its head of field operations.

Paul Simpson, 30, has held a number of roles working for the Labour Party over the past seven year starting off as a communication officer for Keith Hill MP.

“We are delighted to welcome Paul to the campaign. We are sure that he will be able to repeat the success that he enjoyed at the Labour Party with us at the Stop the Boycott campaign," said Poju Zabludowicz, chair of BICOM.
