[Boycott - Other News] Bank of Israel has 1 Arab employee
Gad Lior, YNetNews 10 April 2007 Bank of Israel's 800-strong workforce has only one Arab
Despite promises by Governor Stanley Fischer 18 months ago to recruit Arab Israelis to the Bank of Israel, the bank's 800-strong workforce has only one Arab member, a Yedioth Ahronot investigation has shown.
One and a half years ago, following threats by civil rights groups to sue the bank over recruitment policies they deemed discriminatory, Fischer promised Arab Israeli MK Ahmad Tibi that he would open the bank's door to the Arab minority.
Fischer kept his promise and an Arab Israeli was employed in the research department, but the new recruit resigned soon after and left for the US to study.
The bank however recruited another Arab Israeli, this time in the accounting department.

"The bank has decided to recruit Arab employees and is doing every effort to recruit such employees," the bank said in response.
Bank officials also said that more minority staff members would be recruited, adding that the bank will implement its decision.
Officials added that the bank advertised vacancies in Arab and Jewish media outlets.
