A lecture by Dr. Majed Nassar, titled Boycott, Sanctions and Divestment Against Israel from the International conference, Building a Future Together: Alternatives to the Israeli-Palestinian Impasse, which took place in Bethlehem, on 2-3 December 2005.

Dr Nassar is Executive Director of the Palestinian Health Work Committees and is member of the Board of Directors of the Alternative Information Center (AIC).

Academia is not innocent, I will give some examples:

The Hebrew University has been slowly but consistently expropriating land and expelling Palestinian owners in occupied East Jerusalem.

Tel Aviv University refuses to acknowledge the fact that it sits on top of an ethnically cleansed Palestinian village.

Ben Gurion University has supported in various ways the slow ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian Bedouins in the Negev, these finding were kept secret until recently and in accordance with the university’s agreement with the Ministry.

Haifa University boasts its one of the most racist academics in Israel who relentlessly and influentially provides academic justification for ethnic cleansing. Haifa University sponsored a wide campaign attempting to cover up a little known zionist massacre of Tantora near Haifa in 1948. Haifa University tried to discredit or silence Professor Ilan Pappé and one of his students for daring to reveal the facts about this massacre. Professor Tanya Reinhart from Tel Aviv university is living the same experience.

Bar Ilan University not only operates a campus on the illegal colony of Ariel near Nabulas, it has also awarded Sharon an honorary doctorate!

During the holy month of Ramadan, as we move towards the Eid, I was going around Muslim shops in Tower Hamlets and elsewhere telling them that although they had collection boxes for the Mosque, although they had religious imagery in their shops, although they were selling dates to the faithful people to break their fast - the dates were made in Israel! They were stained with the blood of the Palestinian people! And Muslim shop keepers were selling them!
