[Boycott - Other News] Alert: Emergency protest in solidarity with Palestinian hunger -strikers Hassan Safadi and Samer al-Barq
inminds 18 August 2012
A Palestinian prisoners campaign group was formed at the Al Quds Rally in London on 17th August 2012, and as its first action it has called for an emergency demonstration on Saturday 18th August outside the Israeli Embassy in Kensington High Street at 3-5pm in support of Palestinian prisoners Hassan Safadi and Samer al-Barq who are both in critical condition.
Both men have been imprisoned under Israel's infamous 'administrative detention' which means they have not been charged with anything and there is no trial and yet they have been locked up indefinitely on a rolling 6 month prison sentence.
Hassan Safadi and Samer al-Barq are both on renewed hunger strikes after Israel broke its deal to release them. They had previously already been on hungerstike for 70 and 50 days. Now Sameer has been on a renewed hunger strike from May 22 - that's nearly three months, and Hassan for nearly two months.
Both men are in critical condition, barely able to stand and use wheelchairs for their daily needs. Amnesty has reported that even at the Medical Centre of the Israel Prison Service Samer and Hassan are being repeatedly beaten and abused.
The latest news we just received two days ago (on Thursday 16th August) is that the prison guards have once again attacked Hassan and Samer smashing Hassans head on the iron doors of the cell repeatedly until he was unconscious on the floor, they then dragged both prisoners to an isolation cell without any mattresses. To protest this inhuman and degrading treatment Hassan Safadi has announced that he will no longer be drinking water.
Due to the urgency of this case we will be holding a vigil for Samer and Hassan tomorrow afternoon from 3pm to 5 pm outside Israeli embassy in Kensington high street.

Featured MP3 Podcast "..anti-zionism is not anti-Semitic and this basic mistake, this confusion that anti-zionism is anti-Semitic should be realised by the western nations, and they should realise that supporting zionism helps to drag down the name of the Jewish people in to shame.. I just want to declare with regards to Palestinians and with regards to Muslims generally - there is no animosity between Judaism and Islam, Jews and Muslims have lived together in harmony for centuries in many many communities - in Palestine and many many other places until the advent of the zionist cancer."
